Current Projects
With financial support from Champaign-Urbana Public Health District and the Champaign County Board, AAC contracted with Greystone to complete a market study of Champaign County. The results of the study confirmed our concerns:
-
Both the Market Study and Needs Assessment confirmed that out of the 700+ skilled nursing beds needed by Champaign County by 2026, we are short over 300 beds, or 60% of the beds we need.
-
It’s a unique situation - most of the counties in Illinois have excess nursing home beds. We are one of only two counties in the State with a deficit.
-
The consultant's Market Study recommends working with an existing facility to expand services.
Recent Projects
In the winter of 2024, two surveys funded by the Champaign County Board and administered by Advocates for Aging Care (AAC) and the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District were deployed. One survey was designed for local Champaign County residents and sought to hear from older adults aged 60 and above, as well as family caregivers, to better understand their experiences and needs in caring for Champaign County. The second survey was designed to gather crucial information from providers who are serving older adults to address the nursing home bed shortage in Champaign County and identify gaps in services for older adults in different care settings. The survey findings are summarized in the document below.
